Thank you all for your helpful comments. There appears to be more than
one way to skin a hatch. All seemingly valid.
Just another thought--what do you think of wrapping the skin around the
hatch tube and sewing it underneath the tube, thereby competely covering
the tube? Or sewing the skin where it abuts the tube by wrapping the
string around the tube and through the skin vs. sewing through the coaming
holes?
