Subject: Construction help
Paul and you others should be happy. I still havent' even seen another
baidarka in real life yet! Ah, well, someday...
I need some help. I got the plans for the 6.6 meter 2-hole baidarka from
George Dyson. My letter to him included some questions that as yet have
not been answered. He said he was busy, and would answer when he could.
So, assuming he is still swamped by work, I'm asking the list some other
questions.
These plans have no construction details at all. Hence, I'm a little
confused on some points. With wood I could make a scarf or butt joint
to make the ribbands, sheer, keel, etc.. How do I do this with the AL
tubes? I've seen mention somewhere on this list about putting a slit
piece of tube inside the others and joining them that way. Question:
is this tube the same size with the kerf from the slit providing the needed
slack to be able to force the piece into the other tubes? How far into
the two tubes to be joined does this piece go? (i.e. 2" each side?) Is
any adhesive used at all, or is it just a friction joint?
I finally figured out from the plans that the other pieces below the frames
are the molds. At least I think they are. Are they?
Is there supposed to be any construction details or hints included with
these plans? All they seem to be is the full-sized version of the study
plans.
Thanks for any replies.
