The New England Skin Boat Tribal Gathering.
Colonial Pemaquid State Historical Park /Fort William Henry, Bristol Maine
July 22 and 23, 1995 - Saturday 10 am start rain or shine.
Last years gathering was enjoyed by all who attneded, so we are going to
try a slightly expanded version of our informal get-together. Saturday
will be similar to last years event at the State Historical Park, with
the opportunity to meet other native watercraft enthusiasts, try out
each others designs, discuss equipment and techniqes or participate in
events of broader boating interest with members of the Maine Island Trail
Association, who will be holding their annual Boat Fun Weekend in conjuction
with this event.
We have planned several self-guided trips in the area for later saturday and
sunday. They vary in length from 2 to 10 miles, and you can pick one which
will match your skill levels. In all cases you will get plenty of
opportunity to watch wildlife and see some of the scenery and to visit the
islands that are so much a part of this region.
Camping, resaurants, motels, swimming beach, and other great tourist stuff
nearby, lots to do for the non boat afflicted.
Bring your baidarka, kayak, umiak, coracle, curragh, paddle or any version
or adaptation of traditional craft and accessories.
Bring your own picnic lunch and beverage.
