Subject: Construction Thoughts re Slip-off Cover

I've been following this thread and considered how I'd do it
if I were building a double, canvas over wood..
Based on George's idea, I'd make the deck permanent... I'd
use monel staples on the gunnel and around the hatches..
For the bottom, temporarily fasten the canvas to the gunnel,
then mark the canvas on the outside at the top of the
gunnelr the removable bottom
and the permanent deck...
For the transom post, I'd probably use the suggestion
soomeone made of a split post that clamped the two sides
together and provided an anchor for the 'R' word...
As I was sitting here contemplating this... how about if we
put the seam at the center line of the deck, as most have
suggested, put rather than lacing the two edges the the
canvas together, with all of the waterproofing issues that
have been raised...why not attach (monel staple) the edges
to two strips of wood, let's say .5 inches square and
running the length of each seam... and then lace the two
pieces of wood together, making a waterproof seam... only
issue is that there would be no flexibility in terms of
tension (of course, in a permanent canvas covered kayak,
there is no flexibility either)...TLC
