I'll really confuse evrybody now and mention that I was shown a pair of
those remarkable triangular bladed oars last year by their designer (did
you notice the weight? amazing use of graphite) whose theory is that they
produce useful lift in the lateral direction, i.e., make us of the
motionof the oar blade away from the central axis of the boat as you make
a long sweeping stroke (oars are 12 feeet long or something). And when
you are not using them you can pose like Captain Ahab and a 2-fathom
harpoon with foot-wide blade...
