Dear Craig,

I just read thru what you said, and in return would like to offer a little
idea that might make things easier for you. A down payment for your help,
as it were, if this idea is of any use for you. I'm sending this via the
list in case it might also give any others an idea or someone who might
have tried this can comment on it as to why or why not it's a good idea.

WRT the rudder, I'm building a double, the 6.6 meter. I'm going to drop in
a third hole in between the two, in the middle. This should better enable
me to paddle solo, and have that area easier to access for gear when doubled,
or to carry a third passenger in. Anyway, back to the rudder: You mentioned
you need it with the double and have to keep your feet on it all the time.
Assuming that you are talking about general touring, where there are long
straight stretches, why not run the lines alongside the cockpit and at that
point, just behind where you would comfortably grab the lines install jam
cleats? That way, you could just jam the lines into place on the long
straightways and not have to keep your feet controlling the rudder all the
time. It would still be easy to trim, IMHO. In areas where you have a lot
of turning or constant adjusting to do, bypass the jam cleats. Any thoughts
on this?
