Nothing ever burns up the bandwidth like a discussion about rudders. Great!
Loose comments: Once upon a time I did a lot of paddling with a
hand-controlled rudder... if the control lines are substantial, i.e., 1/4
to 3/8 in diameter, and the action is geared down with a small pulley on
the rudder(quadrant) ends, and the lines positioned conveniently a few
inches off the deck ahead of the hatchway, you can operate the rudder
quite well without interrupting your stroke.
Not to diminsh advatages of fott control (or both). I've seen
versions of the tiller that don't get in the way much more than foot
pedals.
It would be wonderful to catalog all the possibilities. I have no idea
which is best.
