Whatever the method, design rule of thumb is that you should be able to
pick the whole boat up by any single tie-down point. And be sure to set
them inboard from the gunnel far enough to avoid th tendency things have
to catch your knuckles as you paddle by. Nicest tie-downs I've seen
lately are on Barry Wallis's 5.6m--made out of turkey thigh bones, very
cool effect. Urban ivory.
