Greetings! I have recently decided to build a skin boat, either a baidarka
or Greenland design. However, I am having difficulty determining the size of
the boat I want to build. According to various sources traditional kayak
builders built their boats to suit their body size (ie. length). The result
is a boat that is around 17 - 18 feet long for the average sized person.
Herein lies my problem. At 6'7" and 200 lbs I apparently am not average
sized. If I used my body length to determine the size of my boat I would end
up with a kayak that was well over 19' long - too long in my opinion. I was
wondering if there is anybody out there who could offer me some advice in
this area.
Thanks in advance!
