For those of you who have already skinned their boats, or don't want to
mess around with pulleys:
A method that I've used with success is to tie a line to the items that
are going to the ends of the boat and to then push them in place with
the end of a paddle. When I want to remove these items I pull the line
and voila, I have my gear.
