Subject: skin coatings & rolling practice
Greetings! I have been following the goings on for several months and now
have a few queries:
1.) About skin coatings: Anyone have any experience with the long-term
durability of polyurethane (from George Dyson or Bruce Lemon) on nylon, or of
regular oil paint/linseed oil on canvas?
2.) Has anyone tried superlightweight heat-shrink dacron, of the type
recommended by Platt Monfort (Geodesic Aerolite Boats) for his lightweight
canoes?
Thanks,
Jim Coburn

P.S. Anyone in the New York, New Jersey, Connecticut area interested in
trying a 18' long, 22" beam West Greenland style kayak? I would like to try
out other handmade boats and do some rolling/bracing practice in protected
waters. If interested, please email me at the above address. By the way, I
built the boat in a 10 day-class with Mark Rogers of Superior Kayaks
(Whitelaw, Wisconsin) -- a class I highly recommend.
