This list has been pretty dead lately. In an effort to stir up some
discussion I submit the following question:

"Baidarka" seems to be the term used to name traditional style, aleut based
"skin"-on-frame kayaks. What are the criteria to earn the right to this
designation. Dyson's aluminum-nylon-hypalon boats can hardly be called
traditional. Rob Macks' strip-built interpretation is not skin-on-frame.
The greenland style designs can fill all the criteria except being aleut
based. So what exactly is a "baidarka"?

Maybe, someone is snow-bound and has time on their hands and is willing to
turn this question into a lively discussion.
