I would just like to point out that there is absolutely no reason why
you can't do the same "extended" grip sweep with a modern feathered
paddle. Just move the upper hand out to the base of the blade and the
lower hand to the middle of the shaft. This will be as effective as
doing the extended grip on a greenland paddle. It probably will be more
effective due to the larger area of the blade farther out on the modern
paddle.
Most of the techniques said to be "unique" to traditional paddles can
be reproduced with a modern paddle.
