Subject: Status of Dyson 6.6m
Date: Thu, 14 Aug 1997 08:22:59 -0400
Well a long summer of vacationing is over (I'm back at work recovering)
and I'm now back to the final stretch on the 6.6m. The frame is
completely assembled, lashed and epoxied. Floor boards for the aft
hatch are in and the forward ones are finished but required lashing to
the frames. They run from frames 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 and are 6" x 48" x
1/4". It is very easy to slide into the boat and they couldn't have
added more than a pound to the boat. I should have the boat ready for
covering by the end of this weekend.
My only concern, now, is deck attachments and carrying handles. Should
I wait until after covering but before the hypalon? Should I place
anchor points before covering to strengthen the attachment points?
Should the handles run stem to stern or gunwale to gunwale?
We have also decided to not install seats at this time as the floor
boards have a very comfortable "V" shape to them (due to the frame
shape). And sitting that low in the boat, the PFDs provide excellent
back cushioning. (and besides, who would want to cover that gorgeous
polyurethaned wood.)
Thanks for all your help. Besides the loss of use of my garage for the
summer, this has been much less stressful than I had imagined.
