Succinct?
The cost depends on either your cutting your own wood and materials or
buying a kit. If you have the tools so you can start with raw lumber the
boat should not exceed $500 my guess is it costs me about $350. Kits
probably a $1000
How do you do it?
Get plans - there are many out there. Find someone who has done it in
your area. Get to know them real well.
Kits. I only know of Bruce Lemon's kits. He does a pretty good job. He
provides a good Video for instructions. His boat is a good copy of the
native baidarka, no frills.
My experience is that building a skin boat is not rocket science.
Patience and care will see you through.
