I, along with many others, used Wolfgang Brinck's book, the Aleutian
Kayak. I did some variations. I used white oak gunnels, split green
Eastern Red Cedar for the ribs, salvaged Western Red cedar for the
stringers, oak and yellow pine for the keelson, bow piece and tailfin,
and salvaged photographic backdrop 10 oz cotton for the skin. Sewed it
with bowstring dacron, oilpaint for sealer. I made my paddle out of ash
I bartered for. I had a total cash outlay of $35, but I had some good
trading resources. Made my own tools. $150-$200 would make this kayak
under more normal circumstances. So you can see, there is a lot of
variaton that will depend on yur own skills and ingenuity. I loved it!
hope this helps Bob
