I had the same question, I asked, and Wolfgang gave me the same answer he
gave you. I cut the loops after stiching up the seam. One year later no
adverse effects.
BTW, I recycled the cord used for lacing. I installed pulleys (the only non
traditional deviation - well almost) at the nose and stern (inside) and used
the cord to pull float bags (oops more non-traditional) up into the bow and
stern.
It is a great boat, I am thrilled to have built it. It is a bit more tender
than anything else I paddle, but after a few minutes I get used to it.
