Thanks to everyone for suggestions on my numbness! I talked to my doctor
today and got another idea. He explained that the sciatic nerves that feed
the legs run next to the muscles of the back of the leg. When sitting with
the legs out straight those muscles, if tight, will pinch off the nerves!
He suggested stretching the calf and hamstring muscles on a regular basis
and before paddling. I think I'll give that a try as well as removing the
"heel boards" as Wolfgang suggests for more foot room. If this doesn't work
I'll try the thigh pads though I'm concerned about it getting in the way
during a wet exit.
