When you rip the wood into strips keep them oriented end to end. When
you go to glue them up flip every other strip end for end. This way the
grain will be interupted on every other strip. Any imperfections will
spread out through the final piece. Naturally you want to the the best
wood available but even the best has some inperfections. This method
just makes a lamination stronger.
