I wasn't aware that the slap-the-paddle-flat-on-the-water trick didn't work in
aerated water. I haven't had to combat roll in surf (I live 1200 miles from
any surf), but I figured that if it worked for my friend in whitewater, it
would be a good idea in a sea kayak.
I guess I'll just have to drive to the coast and find out for myself! (and try
a Greenland paddle)
