I bend 1/4x1/4 pieces of oak that way to build the coaming rim
of the cockpit. It works, but it is very easy to crack the wood,
which then has to be glued and clamped right on the fracture.
I do not think that that method is feasible for larger pieces of wood.
If you have a steam box use it, otherwise build one.
