Actually I heard a tale, which MAY be true, of a boatbuilder who knew
someone at a lumberyard an paid him a little extra to find and set aside
the sitka spruce 2x's that came in. Apparently every so often, there would
be a shipment of banded 2x's and a few of the pieces would indeed be sitka
spruce. By mistake? Maybe, or maybe trees that couldn't be cut for higer
spec lumber, or something, but chances are, Weyerhauser or whoever it was,
could care less about 1 in 1000 2x8s being sitka spruce.
I can't swear to it, but I heard if from a reliable source.
Of course I wouldn't know ss if it bit me in the arse.
