I have been idly wondering about some specifics of the nomenclature
unique to skin on frame boats. As these things often go, the longer I
go without knowing, the more I wonder. More to the point...
As I sit in the cockpit: Toward the front is fore...toward the back is
aft...to my left is port...to my right is starboard. So the problem,
you see: If there is a tear in the skin to the front left side, how do
I describe that to the lady on the phone who sells the repair material?
My boating partner laughingly suggested I change "port" to "left".
That however seems to avoid the major problem.
Just wondering ;-)
Thanks--ml
