In the old days (this is how old greenlanders start sentences about
kayaks)

cut the keelson out of ash.
For a 6 frame folding greenlander, 20 x 16 mm gives a
lightweight keel that has to be used with care when stretching the skin
by pulling
both halfs of the framework apart with a special mechanism working
mainly on the keel.
I would recommend a size of 20 x 20 mm due to the better fit of standard
aluminium

Otto Hartel used a more stable keel for a greenlander, but I think that
thing is to
heavy. If you are interested in it, I´ll get you the dimensions.
