Subject: [baidarka] Paddle Repair
Date: Mon, 6 Apr 1998 10:25:25 -0230
I would like to repair a two piece wooden paddle that broke at the ferrule.
I'm thinking of making a scarf that starts at the ferrule and extends to
the blade.
My question is how best to orient the scarf. Should the scarf lie in the
plane (more or less) of the blade and see a combination of shear and
compressive forces or should it lie at right angles to the plane of the
blade and be loaded mostly in shear? I'll use epoxy for the adhesive.
Thanks in advance,
David
