Mine has been very effective; the boat behaves as if it had bulkheads when
you wet exit. Before, it used to fill up at end and bob along upright like
a buoy. It's a little annoying sometimes getting in, having to push the
fabric out of the way, but mine is made of stiff stuff and it more or less
holds it's shape underway. One friend said it hung him up during a wet
exit.

Has anyone experimented with a skin-on-frame cockpit "tub" that would seal
to the coaming like a sea sock? You might have to build it first and then
the boat around it.
