Excellent link! I'll check it out. A froe is a general-purpose splitting
tool, it can also be used to make short boards, again, see Underhill and
Sloane for more about using the froe. Also a book called "Make a Chair from
a Tree" (I forget the author).
Someone in one of those books mentioned that his froe was an old automobile
leaf spring piece, so this is not a sophisticated, razor-sharp tool.
