You can make a pretty good blade out of a car spring just by grinding
it. I would have a temper just a little softer than an ax blade. I would
dull a little easier but it is easy to sharpen with a file. If you carefully
select your spring you can use the eye as a handle socket.
In fifteen or twenty minutes with an grinder and bucket of water you
could have a pretty good froe.
