I'm currently building a baidarka based on the strip-built kayak
"Aderyn"(plans available through Canoe&Kayak magazine). I used the
full-size station forms to make rib-bending jigs; I'm making the ribs
from 1/4" x 1" red oak strips. I haven't gone beyond the stage of
rib-bending, so I can't offer much advice yet.....I plan to use 3/4"
aluminum tubing for the gunwales and keelson, and 1/2" pvc tubing for
the stringers. I have some nice 1/4" ash that I will use for the
cockpit coaming. Good luck!
