I'm sure they will dry as there is an enormous difference in H2O
concentration between the atmosphere and the salt solution. While I
wouldn't worry about leaching all the salt out of the shoots they should be
rinsed well to get rid of any surface contamination before you apply a finish.

No, I didn't know how they would turn out so I didn't do the extra work.
