Charles, in a somewhat related vein, there a wonderful book about a
trans-pacific crossing in a bamboo sailing raft (lashed together with
rattan) that may be of interest to some skin kayak folk. Title is "The
China Voyage," by Tim Severin, & it's a pretty good read if I may say so.
