..A group of organizations* are holding the "third biennial North American
..Water Trails Conference and Chesapeake Water Trails Workshop" at the
..National Conservation Training Center in Shepherdstown, West Virginia.

..The conference itself runs from Sunday October 11 through Tuesday October
..13 (the 12th is Columbus Day). The program includes sessions on
..
..- water trails in general,
..- water trails in the Chesapeake watershed (keynote speech by Paul
Sarbanes),
..- case studies of the Cascadia Marine Trail, the Hudson River Trail, the
..Maine Island Trail, and the Alexender Mackenzie Voyageur Route
..- how to organize water trails
..- roles of federal, state, and provincial government
..- nuts and bolts of trail management
..- workshop on the Chesapeake Action Agenda and so on.

..On Saturday the 10th they are organizing three paddling trips, on the
..Potomac around Washington, on the "middle" Potomac (somewhere between
..D.C. and Cumberland W. Va., they don't say where), and on the Susquehanna
..River Trail in the Harrisburg area.

..The cost of the conference is $100, $49 for the paddle trips. Lodging
..plus room and board at the National Conservation Training Center costs
..$94/day, or you can camp for free and pay $28/day for food.
