Hi Rene,
while I'm sure that you could get away with tarp or tyvek, I'm planning on
using them as temporary skins, partly to get an idea how much material
would be needed to cover the bamboo kayak. Tyvek is pretty tough but can be
pierced, though it doesn't tear very easily.
On the other hand I've found a tyvek material which might take a latex or
poly finish and might be more durable. I'll have to try a piece.
