Dear Howard,

Ba> Why sew? Why not tacks?

Well, if the deck seam looks lumpy, you might try sewing at the gunwales.
With my folding boats, I sew the skin on leftsided; then I disassemble
the frame and invert the skin.

Ba> 2. What is the purpose of the elaborate bow design of the
Ba> baidarka (Brinck's book, in particular) ? It has almost a
Ba> polynesian war canoe feeling to it. What does it do, that a
Ba> clean, Greenlandstyle bow does not do?

You might want to try the straight divided bow configuration as I showed
in the "Greenland Baidarka" part of the Folding Aluminum Baidarka
Homepage ( http://www.eskimo.com/~hmaroske/baidarka/index.html )

Ba> I look forward to your insights.

See above. There's also some text about the skin in the "construction"
section...

Have fun!

Hendrik
