As I understand it, the baidarka's bifurcated bow is the only
way to get a concave bow in a skin boat. The bottom part
is narrow for decreased resistance on flat water, while the
top part is wide to prevent pearling in waves.
Maybe John Winters or Wolfgang Brinck could give a more
technical explanation.
