Hi Ross
Great to hear about a fellow Canadian building a Jawbone kayak! Making
a round cockpit sounds like a neat idea. It would make this design look
much more traditional. I personally don't care for the tall bow and
stern stem pieces and wish they were closer to flush with the deck.
I think using PVC for the skin is a good idea, I considered it and
decided to follow the instructions the first time around. I also want
to know just how good or bad canvas really is as a skin under local
conditions.
Thanks for the web site references, I had forgotten about some of the
info contained there. Will also try to get ahold of Wolfgang Brinks
book. There are no apple trees here but aspen, hybrid poplar or
cottonwood might work as well as willow. According to sources the pith
center of the shoots must be small.
