Subject: Missing Message re Bifurcated Bows
Someone asked "why".
I tried to attach a graphic which shows an extreme version of the
bifurcated bow (from Melanesia) and it burped, but the text which was
attached said, basically,
-- double bows have been found in Bronze Age boats in Northern Europe
-- Carib canoes are dugouts but have a rising bow with a vertical "blade"
beneath, sticking out further than the bow itself. Sort of a double bow
without a gap.
-- Double bows, or at least bow elements with a fork, are also seen on
canoes from the pacific in one form or another although they are fairly
vestigial.
So the other possible explanation is "just because". That is, a reason we
can't fathom.
