Hello one and all.
All this talk about light wieght paddles got me wondering what my paddles weigh in at.
1st paddle I made weighs in 1450 gr.
2nd at 1090gr
3rd at 985gr
and 4th and favourite at1360gr.
All are timber shafts and ply wood blades .
Favourite is 249cm long .83cm blades 83cm off shaft in between . Blades are 110cm wide at the widest point
with a dripper (looks like a hook ) 2/3rd the way up the blade and it works really well.(no wet lap)
Shaft is laminated out of Cedar and Radiarta pine. The pine is quite heavy and next time I might use all Cedar.
Theres nothing like a warm comfortable wooden shafted paddle that you have made yourself. Very satisfiying.
Not much happening with the baidarka at the moment . I am spending my time fitting out a stich and glue yak that has been in the old mans shed for nearly twelve months while I finished of my shed. Will have that in the water by the end off the weekend and then back to the badaika.
Models. have built a couple. Was an interesting exercise drawing up plans of my own thinking and then building a model from said plans. Very time consuming and fiddly but worth having a go at.
And Craig yes there is plenty of water also. <grin>
Progress: Mans abality to complicate simplicity
