Duane,

I have had very good results with #10 cotton duck on my kayak painted as
follows: 1st coat--2/3 boiled linseed oil, 1/3 oil base "house paint"; 2nd
coat--1/3 oil, 2/3 paint; 3rd coat--spar varnish. It is now 4 years old
and looks just about like new except for some very faint crackling
(crazing?)at a few locations on the surface. This is visible only when
viewed from a few inches away and has no effect on waterproofing. Hasn't
leaked a drop in 4 years.
