Duane, I recently finished mine. I used a mix recommended by a fellow
builder as follows: a 50/50 mixture of boiled linseed oil and oil based
primer and a bit of baby powder for the first coat, a 30/70 mixture for the
second coat and 30/70 but substituted oil based house paint for the third
coat. It takes a good seven days to dry between coats. I recently finished a
trip to the boundary waters and lost some paint to the rocks, but no leaks.
My understanding is that this coating generally lasts about 5 years and then
the boat needs reskinning. I received many compliments that the boat looked
like a fiberglass model 'til they got up close and saw the stitching. If you
need to know more, you can e-mail me direct.

I would be curious to hear of others experiences with paint on canvass.
