Heat guns have no thermostat, as far as I know, and can go far beyond
melting point.
Artificial fabrics will not tell you much in advance when they will
start melting and become tough and brittle if you com close to melting
temperature.

The answer probably is the same: whatever you use - fabric and heat
source - make sure you run trials before...
