Subject: [baidarka] shrinking nylon and penetrating

I recently finished a boat covered with 14oz nylon. I read about just
misting it and also heating it to shrink. I sprayed it with a mister
and then used a hair dryer and had good results. Unfortunately
something about putting the urethane on caused it to sag. Next time I
would try an iron over a damp towel on the skin as someone sugguested
this winter.

My covering was interlux interthane plus, a two part urethane. I
thinned the first coat 25% with their thinner and had good penetration.
I applied two more thinned coats but probably only needed 2 coats total.
It was expensive, $38/qt and I used 3.5 quarts in 0.5 qt batches.

Good luck, JH
