I have been making all of my own neoprene sprayskirts for years from a
pattern I got out of a back issue of "Sea Kayaker" magazine. I get a custom
fit for myself and each of my boats at a significant savings over the
commercial skirts. If properly glued the neoprene rubber does not need to be
sewn. In fact, the rubber usually wears out before the seams do. The
construction process is pretty straight forward and can be completed in two or
three days (you need to allow time for the glue to set). I have found that
the most difficult aspect of building your own neoprene sprayskirts is
tracking down a source for the materials. But even this can be overcome with a
little perseverance.
