Subject: [baidarka] Li'l Beauty skin-on-frame kayak
OK, I know this isn't *exactly* a baidarka, but a North Carolina man
sells plans for a wood plywood frame, Dacron covered 12-foot kayak. The
lines are more like a Folboat, pretty wide.
I haven't built it yet, but the frame consists of about five frames, and
nine longitudinal stringers, all from one-inch pine. It's glued and
screwed together. There's a piece of plywood in the bottom.
Here's the question... he says you can build this boat in 14-18 hours!
The baidarka plans I've seen talk about 100's of hours! Where does all
the time go in building the more traditional boats? Is it in the
lashing? Or bending wood strips in more complex directions?

When I get started on mine, I'll post more details.
