True, I think that the grooves may have had this effect on the older kayaks in the
Leningrad museum. But in more recent boats, the grooves are not really deep enough to
have that kind of function.
But I was not restricting myself to mechanical function. Those who venture out on big
water need all the help they can get, mechanical as well as spiritual. Even in our
modern day there is still the practice of the blessing of the fleet in fishing
communities.
