Subject: [baidarka] Tooling up

What are the necessary and desirable handtools for this style of boatbuilding?
And what's the best catalog for seeing pictures of these tools?
It would seem that a couple of good drawknives would be good so I'm making some
today,
I like making tools.
The question on the canoe knife got me to thinkin....I've got some good l-6 bandsaw
steel from an old sawmill....the steel is excellent knife steel and very
flexible....seems to me that a properly designed handle would allow an adjustable
and replaceable blade....the radius of the blade could be adjusted using a
thumbscrew, or apparatus similar to a radiator hose clamp....the blade would be
chisel ground instead of sawteeth....
I think I'll build a prototype of this.....any idea from end users would be
appreciated...size, handle size and angle....etc...
Thanks,
Jim
PS, I've about decided to build a umiak style sailing craft....I'm gonna check into
that umiak book and modify as necessary....might wind up with a great birdhouse!
