The following item was sent to the baidarka mailing list, which
appears to have been added to a "mailing list" owned by gawts@earthlink.com
I debated whether to forward it to the list, there has been some
discussion about it on the Paddlewise mailing list as that list was
also sent the solicitation. Before you consider joining GAWTS
I would do some research to verify the group is legitimate. Were it not
for the annual rendevous with "primitive techniques demonstrations" I would
not have forwarded the item. At least one member of this mailing list,
has some affiliation with GAWTS. I'll leave it up to them to respond to
any questions should there be followups.
Contacting gawts@earthlink.com may result in your email address being
added to their mailing list.

Hello Fellow Paddler,
I would like to invite you to become a member of the:
The GULF AREA WATER TRAILS SOCIETY
We are dedicated to your enjoyment of paddling and camping on the beautiful
coastal waters of the Gulf of Mexico.
We publish a bimonthly journal, and various guides to paddling areas
throughout the gulf coast. Our camping platform project is off to a great
start, with donation's rolling in and a very ambitious plan, we are sure
this year will be a great one. Our annual paddling rendezvous will be held
in the New Orleans Area on Sept. 26 - 27, 1998. In addition to paddling
fun, our rendezvous will have various primitive crafts and primitive
skill's exhibits and demonstrations.

The GAWTS has a unique set of Goals and Objectives as noted below:
The goal of the Gulf Area Water Trails Society is to increase your paddling
enjoyment, while striving to make paddling areas more accessible and safer
for all those who participate.
Our Primary Objectives are:
To create a communications media which will foster a working relationship
between the paddling and wilderness skills clubs along the Gulf Coast.
To facilitate access to safety, paddling, and wilderness skills training
courses.
To forge agreements with private coastal land and waterway owners for the
low impact use of their coastal properties.
To collect and document paddling and wilderness skill club information,
paddling launch sites, low impact camping sites, support & emergency
facilities, and business partners who support our goals and objectives.
To promote stewardship and conservation of public and private lands and
waterways, through education and public service projects.
