Yes -- this is called "Hollowood". It's not a mast material, it seem to be
more of an interior decorator's or perhaps furniture maker's material. You
can get it in any number of swell veneers, for example.
That being said, it's interesting stuff. It's set up so each size can
telescope into the next size up, which is handy. It's quite strong since
it's a "roll of plywood" and can be had in different wall thicknesses.
One big problem is length. Standard lengths are 8 feet. I believe you can
order lengths up to 12 feet but the shipping is going to eat you alive
unless you want a truckload.
Finally, in a way Hollowood is just white man's bamboo <chuckle>. You can
find bamboo which finishes up very nicely as well, and often for free, or
so near to it that it doesn't matter.
