Subject: baidarka lacing question

I'm ready to start lacing up the deck, after some testing I think the
canvas will hold up with the dowel method. So, does the lacing cord that I
use to pull the flaps tight become a permanent part of the boat then,
running back and forth over the deck stringer? I cant see any way its ever
going to come out, and I'm not too keen on having it lumped under the skin.
Am I missing something, as usual? Thanks for a speedy reply
