Subject: baidarka Northeast skin boat gathering (announcement)
I finally got the web page invitation finalized for this
years Northeast skinboat gathering
(http://people.ne.mediaone.net/jkolsen/html/gather99.html)
This years gathering will be held on Pleasant Bay (Cape Cod) in Chatham
Massachusetts on June 12 and 13. There are directions on the web page.
The gathering is for anyone who has or is interested in skin/frame boats.
Pleasant Bay is an extremely pretty place. The site we've chosen has
a long sand beach, parking about 20 yards from the beach, and the water
warms up quite nicely. The tides there are such that there's no problem
paddling at any time (low tide doesn't leave miles of flats). High tide
should be about noon on the 12th. Chatham harbor and open ocean are
about a 3 mile paddle from the meeting location.
If you are planning to attend please let Bill Low (billow@capecod.net) or
me know (Kirk Olsen, kork@imagelan.com (978)682-0068), so we can get a
rough headcount.
If you would like a paper invitation let me know and we'll make sure you
are on the list. If you usually get an invitation and don't want one let
me know, I don't feel a great need to send mail to someone who doesn't
want it.
Every other year this event seems to get clocked by the weather, last
year we got approximately 7" of rain with 30+ mile per hour wind on the
Saturday of the gathering. 3 years ago rememnants of a hurricane
passed through on the day of the gathering. So this year the weather
should be wonderful ;-)
We're planning on sending out postal invitations to a list of addresses
that we have for the New England States (plus NJ, NY, PA, and the eastern
Canadian provinces)
